Peyronie’s disease features plaque or hard lumps. The lumps develop within the penis. The lumps or plaque which is a flat plate of scar tissue can form on the bottom side or top of the penis in the internal of âtunica albuginea’ (a thick membrane). The tunica albuginea is the enclosure of the erectile tissues. At first, the plaque starts out as a localized inflammation and eventually grows into a hard scar.

Examination of Peyronie’s Disease

Usually, peyronie’s disease is diagnosed by doctors on a physical examination basis. During a physical examination, the doctor can feel the plaque when the patient’s penis is limp. However, for evaluation purpose, examination may be necessary during erection to ascertain the deformity or enormity of the situation. An injection-induced erection may be carried out; alternatively, the patient can achieve erection through self stimulation. Also, to eliminate the need for induced erection while in the doctor’s office, the patient may take a Polaroid or digital picture at home and come with it.

Ultrasound scan of the penis may also be required as part of the examination in order to spot the locations as well as the calcification of the plaque. Using the ultrasound also, the doctor can evaluate the flow of blood into and out of the penis; this way, any case of erectile dysfunction would be determined.

Symptoms

Peyroniel’s disease could be severe or mild. Sometimes, the symptoms may start showing up gradually, while in some cases they may develop overnight. The hardened plaque would cause pain and the penis may likely arc or bend in the course of erection, this is especially true of extreme cases. Even after the pain subsides over time, the penis may remain an issue, resulting to difficulty in sexual intercourse.

Peyronie`s Disease Treatment

Study shows that 30 â 50% of Peyronie’s disease patients are likely to get worse without treatment, while approximately 12-13% of those suffering from the disease are likely to improve spontaneously without treatment over time.

Peyronie`s disease treatment is also carried out using oral treatments besides surgery. However, the results of studies on how the oral treatment works have been mixed so far â oral treatment for this disease is seen by some people as controversial. Also, there had been various studies for many decades now on Vitamin E supplementation, of which certain degree of success was recorded. However, there has not been substantial reliable repetition of the previous studies’ success in recent studies. A glimpse of hope in regards to progression delay of the condition has been realized through the combination of Vitamin E and Colchicine.

There seems to be a trend for demand of natural product for Peyronie`s Disease.
